Our Client, based in Bellingham Washington, has retained us to identify a leader to run their family owned enterprise, one which has a stellar reputation as a highly ethical and customer-centric business after 50+ years serving their markets. The mission of this leader is to develop and execute a game plan to diversify and take the business forward and to the next level.

The leader selected will be entrepreneurial in spirit and creative in style with an excellent business acumen. This professional will have a proven track record in leadership and identifying new service offerings as well as team building and mentoring staff members to hone their effectiveness and efficiency. They will view the enterprise as “we” not “me” with a can do attitude. Their background will include 10+ years in management roles including general management and/or President.

REPORTS TO: Chairman of the Board/Board of Directors

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Executive is primarily responsible for leading and managing the company to a cohesive and profitable future. S/he will have full P&L responsibility for driving results for both their Services/Distribution business and the Property Management side of their business.

The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and oversight of all aspects of day-to-day operations, business strategy and execution, sales and marketing and profit and loss responsibility. In addition, s/he will be responsible for property management and development plans for the properties owned by the enterprise including relocation from their present site.

CANDIDATE PROFILE:
Education:
An undergraduate degree in business or a relevant curriculum; advanced degree in business would be a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum of ten years of successful profit and loss responsibility in a general management/President role, at least 5 years of which is with a private business of similar size ($10 to 20 million), preferably a family business or partnership.

  • A proven ability as a leader/manager to evaluate and mentor staff to grow and excel, to give clear direction and hold staff members accountable. Develop a succession plan.

  • Consistent track record of continually making good business decisions in a timely manner and developing and executing creative solutions. Relevant industry experience would include: manufacturing, distribution, logistics, assembly, processing, construction.

  • Proven track record in effectively communicating to all levels in the business - in this case the Chairman (family member), Board and the staff.

  • A big plus would be experience in property management and partnering with developers and working with government and land use officials at all levels.
Personal Characteristics:
The individual being sought must be a collaborative leader, able to communicate a clear company vision and inspire excellence in all areas of the business, with a demonstrated capacity to think strategically and act tactically, seeing both “the trees and the forest” to assess company needs and couple those needs with sound planning and execution. Strong interpersonal skills combined with a collaborative style of leadership that is focused on team building and mentoring is a must. It is imperative this individual has strong ethical and moral values that govern all decisions with high integrity.
